CPEI Credentialing

Maintaining Your Credentials

CPEI credentialed professionals have ongoing responsibilities related to continuing education, professional ethics, endorsement, annual dues and participation in the credentialing community.

Ongoing Responsibilities

Maintaining an Active CPEI Credential

Credentialing does not end when certification is granted. CPEI credentialed professionals are expected to continue meeting the professional, ethical and educational requirements associated with their credential.

Requirements differ somewhat for chaplains, Supervisor-Educators and Training Supervisor-Educators. Credentialed members should refer to the current Credentialing Manual for complete requirements.

Credential Maintenance

Core Ongoing Requirements

Maintaining a CPEI credential requires continued attention to professional ethics, education and organizational responsibilities.

Professional Ethics

Credentialed professionals must continue to abide by CPEI’s Code of Professional Ethics.

Continuing Education

Complete the annual continuing education requirement established for your credential type.

Religious Endorsement

Maintain required ecclesiastical or religious endorsement in accordance with CPEI credentialing requirements.

Annual Dues

Pay applicable annual dues required to maintain your credential.

Continuing Education

Annual Continuing Education Requirements

CPEI establishes different annual continuing education requirements for chaplains and supervisory educators.

Chaplain Credentials

BCAC & BCC

1.0 IACET CEU

or 10 contact hours per year

Credentialed chaplains must complete at least 1.0 IACET CEU, equivalent to 10 contact hours, each year and pay applicable annual dues.

Educator Credentials

SE & TSE

1.5 IACET CEUs

or 15 contact hours per year

Supervisor-Educators and Training Supervisor-Educators must complete at least 1.5 IACET CEUs, equivalent to 15 contact hours, each year.

SEs and TSEs also have Staff and Faculty meeting participation requirements and annual dues.

Professional Development

Continuing Education Can Take Many Forms

CPEI recognizes continuing education across a broad range of professional learning activities.

Academic Learning

Degree-credit courses and other structured educational programs.

Professional Training

Career training, seminars, workshops and professional conferences.

Presentations & Teaching

Conference presentations, lectures and other professional learning activities.

Community Learning

Participation in chaplain or Supervisor-Educator professional learning communities.

Professional Participation

Participate in Credentialing Review

CPEI credentialed members are required to participate in at least one credentialing review each year.

Serving as a reviewer or panelist keeps credentialed professionals engaged with CPEI’s competencies, supports colleagues pursuing credentials and strengthens the peer-review process.

Important

Failure to meet requirements may affect your credential.

The Credentialing Manual identifies failure to follow CPEI’s Code of Professional Ethics, complete required continuing education, maintain ecclesiastical endorsement, or pay annual certification fees as grounds for removal of certification.

If you have questions about your credential status or believe you may not have completed a requirement, contact CPEI Credentialing for guidance.
