CPEI Credentialing

Get Credentialed with CPEI

CPEI offers professional credentialing pathways for chaplains and CPE educators who meet established requirements for education, formation, professional competency and ethical practice.

Professional Credentialing

What Does CPEI Credentialing Mean?

Credentialing is a professional review process through which candidates demonstrate that they meet the requirements and competencies established for the credential they are seeking.

The process considers education, Clinical Pastoral Education, professional formation, religious endorsement when applicable, written materials, demonstrated competencies and credentialing review.

Completing CPE or Supervisory Education through CPEI does not automatically result in professional credentialing. Credentialing is a separate process with its own requirements.

What Credentialing Represents

CPEI credentialing recognizes professionals who demonstrate preparation, competency and commitment to ethical practice.

Professional Competency

Credentialing demonstrates that a professional has completed an established review of preparation and competencies.

Professional Credibility

A professional credential communicates achievement and accountability within chaplaincy and spiritual care practice.

Ethical Accountability

Credentialed professionals commit to CPEI’s Code of Professional Ethics and ongoing professional responsibilities.

Prepare to Apply

Before You Submit an Application

A little preparation can help you avoid delays in the credentialing process.

Review the current Credentialing Manual.

Confirm that you meet the requirements for the credential you are seeking.

Gather required transcripts, CPE evaluations, recommendations, endorsement materials and professional documentation.

Review the application deadline and corresponding credentialing interview window.

Complete the application for your credentialing pathway and submit all required materials.

Important

Credentialing is not automatic.

Submitting an application, completing CPEI education or paying a credentialing fee does not guarantee that a candidate will receive a CPEI credential.

Candidates must meet the requirements and demonstrate the competencies established for the credential being sought.
