Review Materials
Reviewers assess candidate applications, written competency materials and supporting documentation before the credentialing interview.
CPEI Credentialing
The CPEI Credentialing Committee supports a structured, competency-based credentialing process for chaplains, Supervisor-Educators and Training Supervisor-Educators.
Committee Purpose
The Credentialing Committee works to ensure that competencies assessed during the credentialing process are consistent with CPEI standards for professional chaplains and Supervisor-Educators.
The committee works closely with CPEI’s Chief Academic Officer to help ensure that credentialing competencies remain aligned with CPE and Supervisory Education preparation.
Credentialing Review
Committee members and credentialing reviewers help administer a fair and consistent review process.
Reviewers assess candidate applications, written competency materials and supporting documentation before the credentialing interview.
Candidate materials and interviews are evaluated against the competencies and standards established for the credential being sought.
Candidates meet by video with a reviewer and credentialing panel interviewers as part of the applicable credentialing review process.
Reviewers help apply CPEI credentialing standards consistently across candidates and credentialing pathways.
Credentialing Panels
CPEI uses credentialed professionals to review candidates at an appropriate level of experience and credentialing.
Credentialing Committee reviewers are credentialed at or above the level of the candidate being reviewed.
A typical credentialing review involves a primary reviewer and three panel interviewers.
Panel members complete a preliminary assessment of the candidate’s written materials before the interview and submit individual assessments following the review process.
Review Integrity
CPEI maintains safeguards intended to support an independent credentialing process.
Past CPE Supervisor-Educators, Training Supervisor-Educators and CPE or SEC peers do not serve on a candidate’s credentialing review board.
Candidate information and credentialing records are maintained independently of the CPEI Executive Council, and the Executive Council and Board of Directors do not participate in credentialing decisions.
Credentialed Members
Credentialed members help sustain CPEI’s peer-review credentialing model.
CPEI credentialed members are required to participate in at least one credentialing review annually.
Serving as a reviewer or panelist gives experienced professionals an opportunity to engage directly with the competencies that shape their own professional work while supporting colleagues pursuing CPEI credentials.
