The American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) is dedicated to supporting, strengthening, and serving Christian mental health professionals, as well as Christian life coaches, pastors, lay counselors, and other Christian leaders. AACC has chosen to become an Affiliate of CPEI to expand its training to those who wish to serve in areas of pastoral care or chaplaincy ministries.
Students enrolling through AACC will be assigned to one of CPEI’s Supervisor-Educators to ensure the training aligns with AACC’s mission.

Anam Cara CPE offers fully online, trauma-informed Clinical Pastoral Education for chaplains and caregivers across diverse fields. Formerly The School of Military Spiritual Formation, the program has expanded beyond its military roots—now offering cohorts led by supervisors and mentors with specialized expertise in correctional, hospice, behavioral health, crisis-response, and military chaplaincy. With a strong commitment to interfaith inclusion, our cohorts blend clinical rigor with deep presence—equipping students to serve with clarity, compassion, and credibility. We support working adults—including pastors in transition, veterans, and soul-centered leaders—through flexible, accessible training grounded in both professional standards and spiritual depth.

Baton Rouge General is dedicated to developing and training individuals called to minister to the sick through two Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs. These graduate-level programs deliver theological and professional ministry education in a clinical setting that combines action and reflection. Students gain first-hand pastoral care experience by providing spiritual support to patients, families, and hospital staff, and through guided reflection with certified CPE supervisors and peers. Community Chaplain Network, Inc. (CCN) is a 501(c)(3) Non-profit corporation that offers online/virtual and in-person CPE training. CCN is also a network of chaplains around the world, providing chaplain care teams to local businesses on a weekly and monthly basis. Founded by Scott D. Speight, an approved CPEI Training Supervisor-Educator, CCN welcomes participants from diverse faith backgrounds and gives opportunities for personal and professional growth in both clinical and community-based settings. Scott’s background in the military, marriage and family therapy, coaching, and leadership training allows for a diverse learning experience.
Training is offered through a 12- and 16-week Online/Virtual modality for CPEI CPE (CPE 100-400) and Supervisory Education Courses (SEC 600-900). CC of NWA, LLC offers a hybrid Clinical Pastoral Education for students unable to train exclusively in hospital settings. Through partnerships in the NWA Region, students complete clinical and parish-based ministry hours. A six-member advisory committee of clinicians and chaplains provides guidance.
Founder and CPE Supervisor Scott Martin, board-certified since 2019, trained with CPEI in 2021. He has served as a hospice chaplain, pediatric chaplain with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and currently with Agape Care Group in Oklahoma. Scott and his family live in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.

CPE@ChIME – The Chaplaincy Institute of Maine is a community of Compassionate Learning and Service that offers virtual/online CPE with a strong emphasis on trauma and crisis ministry. We support students pursuing CPE 100–9000 courses as individuals, prepare individuals who wish to be credentialed as chaplains, those who wish to engage in educational and supervisory roles, and individuals who need Chaplaincy training as part of their ordination process. Freeman Health System offers the opportunity to learn through the provision of pastoral care to patients, families, and staff. Hospital ministry challenges the student to minister to persons experiencing trauma, death, grief, and life uncertainties. JFWC (Joplin Family Worship Center), in cooperation with Watered Gardens Ministry (an outreach to the homeless), offers a hybrid program allowing students to earn clinical hours at their primary place of employment while providing ministry to men and women dealing with homelessness, addictions, and other associated challenges. The very real challenges of congregational ministry are recognized while noting the opportunity for growth as pastoral care givers that is afforded as we move beyond our respective comfort zones.

Lived Experience balances on two cornerstones: pastoral identity and ministry formation. Lived Experience focuses on the various clinical sites each student brings to the group. Military, hospice, hospital, and pastorates are typical placements for students. This supervisor is a current Air Force Reserve Chaplain with experience in a large trauma hospital, a small community hospital, and hospice. Lived Experience offers a “safe enough” setting for all to share their experiences as pastoral care providers. Lived Experience also offers supervisory CPE for those who have completed four units of CPE and are board-certified.

Students in the RWJBarnabas Health CPE program serve as intern chaplains at hospitals across the RWJBarnabas Health system, including RWJ Hamilton, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, and Trinitas Regional Medical Center, with additional placements available by arrangement. Weekly seminars are held online and occasionally in person. Through a theologically grounded action-reflection model, students develop pastoral counseling and spiritual care skills, strengthen their professional identity, and accompany people through life crises. STOTS offers two opportunities for CPE each year, but neither is open to the general public. First – each summer term – STOTS offers an accredited 12-week intensive unit for select (matriculated) Master of Divinity students in between their second and third years. The unit is held in concurrence with enrollment in the requisite second-year summer parish internship experience for Master of Divinity students. Second – during the Fall semester each year, STOTS offers an accredited 16-week extended unit to alumni clergy. At this time, there are no exceptions to either the “alumni” or “clergy” prerequisites for application to this Fall unit.

The Hospice Chaplaincy Resource Center offers a comprehensive educational experience that encompasses the fundamentals of the Action-Reflection-Action model of CPE, a format that fosters a sense of safety for students to present verbatim and other written/verbal exercises, and didactics that provide essential information for students to succeed in the hospice/healthcare environments. Dr. Behers has 18 years of experience in hospice care, authored “Spiritual Care For People Living With Dementia Using Multisensory Interventions,” and has published a number of hospice-focused articles. Graduates of the program comment that they felt prepared to either enter the field of chaplaincy, and their current chaplaincy was vastly improved. The University of Kansas Health System CPEI Affiliate, located at 1901 Olathe Blvd. in Kansas City, Kansas, offers hybrid Clinical Pastoral Education through a blend of in-person and online learning. As a 1,000-bed medical, surgical, and Level 1 Trauma Center, we provide students with rich clinical experience across diverse patient populations, including trauma, burn, pediatrics, mother/baby, behavioral health, acute care, and critical care. Our CPE cohorts form a covenant community that fosters growth in self-awareness, ministry competence, and theological understanding.

U.S. Navy Fleet Seminar programs offer extended (16-week) accredited CPE training to active duty and select reserve component chaplains. At this time, only Navy chaplains (4100 and 4105) may apply to the program, without exception. Chaplains who complete two units of CPE in the Fleet Seminar program and then complete associate-level board certification with CPEI or a recognized cognate group will be eligible to receive an Additional Qualification Designator (AQD).

For more than 45 years, the Navy Pastoral Care Residency programs in Portsmouth, VA and San Diego, CA have represented the gold standard in clinical training for military chaplains in the Sea Services. Students first compete for placement in a funded graduate education billet for the fiscal year in which they hope to attend CPE training. If screened by the Navy Chaplain Corps, they will be issued 1-year Permanent Change of Station orders. Students complete 4 units of intensive CPE training over the course of one calendar year and are awarded Naval Subspecialty Code 1440N. No outside applications are considered.

Washington Regional Medical Center offers in-person CPE for local students and online CPE for those outside Northwest Arkansas. Our program follows an experiential adult learning model—action, reflection, new action—providing hands-on experience as part of the interdisciplinary team during traumas, codes, ICU rounds, surgeries, and other crisis events. Classroom didactics on psychotherapeutic theories, theological reflection, and self-process deepen learning, while a sacred space for feedback fosters growth in pastoral presence. In-person students may reduce tuition with additional clinical hours. Focus areas include trauma, oncology, NICU, cardiac/neuro ICU, labor and delivery, surgery, and palliative care.
